After a couple of years of post-pandemic hoarding and sifting through various demos, Bay Area indie rockers In-Sides announce their latest EP, Salvo, slated for release on 6/12/24, with the lead single “Mud” available on 4/23/24. From themes of alienation to screen addiction to narcissism, Salvo offers a lush and pensive yet succinct collection of tracks, blending dream pop and grunge elements across six songs with ethereal and distorted guitars and doubled choruses.
During the latter stages of lockdowns, songwriter Stephen Fong grappled with depression, wondering when he’d play live music again. Against the backdrop of intense political turmoil in the Bay Area, it’s no wonder the lyrics carry an undertone of angst, though this might slip past listeners swept away by the vocals. “Mud,” the first single, serves as an open letter to narcissists, delivering a list of grievances.
Recorded and produced by Maryam Qudus at Tiny Telephone and Brothers Chinese Recording in Oakland in 2022, Salvo marks a milestone for the band. In-Sides is supporting the release with two more singles “Old Soul” which released on 5/15/24 as a music video and the third track TV Brain out on 5/29/24.
